Basil Fry – Celebrating a lifetime in insurance

Basil Fry - Celebrating a lifetime in insurance We’re proud to announce that our company has now been successfully trading for 50 years. It’s our anniversary, but not only that, it’s also the month that our founder, Basil Fry himself, would have been celebrating his 100th birthday.Basil started his career in insurance back in 1938 when he joined Nixon, Constable and Co. on a wage of just £4 per week. He saw active service in Kenya during the Second World War, but returned to work in the firm, becoming a partner when Mr Constable retired in 1960, and rising to MD in the years that followed. In 1970 Basil left to set up on his own and ever since ’Basil Fry & Company’ has gone from strength to strength as a family business. Initially with the help of Basil’s son, Chris and son-in-law Christopher, followed by Phillip Wildman in the 1980s and into the present with the current MD, Phillip’s brother, Greg Wildman. This continuity has maintained a family feel to the Company whilst upholding the expert, bespoke and personal service that Basil Fry is so proud of.Our Managing Director Greg Wildman commented, "This July we are celebrating two significant milestones - our 50th anniversary as a company, and the 100th birthday of our founder Basil Fry. Sadly, Basil passed in the 1990's but we will be raising a glass to him later in the month. His influence continues to be felt in the company five decades after its foundation, with consultancy and service still at the heart of what we do. We now employ forty-three local people and maintain our position as the leading specialist insurance consultants to the Removals, Storage, and Self-Storage industries in the UK, and we're sure that Basil would be very proud of the company we [...]

Broker Bulletin – Covid-19

Essential risk management & insurance advice during the Covid-19 pandemic The coronavirus pandemic is undoubtedly causing significant strain on every business in the removals and storage industry. It is crucial, however, that you make every effort to protect your assets, as a loss at this time could also put your business in jeopardy. During times of mass unemployment, economic recession/strain, and school holidays, it is an unfortunate reality that arson, theft and malicious damage crime rates increase. Indeed, two supermarket delivery vans were subject to an arson attack less than an hour after the Prime Minister issued the 'lockdown' order. We advise the following measures be put in place to ensure your vehicles, customers' goods in storage, buildings and other assets are as safe as possible. Vehicle Storage Advice If you have access to a storage facility or other warehouse with available space, there will be the temptation to park vehicles inside. Remember, while parking vehicles inside may reduce the likelihood of theft and vandalism, it will not remove exposure to fire. If you do park any vehicles inside, you must ensure that the vehicle batteries are disconnected, and tanks fully drained of fuel. If you park vehicles outside, you should allow as much separation as possible, as this will reduce the likelihood of fire spreading between vehicles, and park the vehicles away from any buildings. Customers' Goods in Store / Other Business Assets Continuing storage charges will support your business through periods where other sources of revenue are uncertain. If your storage premises are subject to a significant loss during this time, not only will this vital revenue be lost, but, if you own your building, you could also face losing your most valuable asset. You should ensure any building you own or lease and any stored [...]
